At the heart of Paradox and of all Borland products' database capabilities lies the Borland Database Engine (BDE). It supports ISAM data access to Paradox and dBASE file formats, an API for installing drivers for SQL databases, and an ODBC socket that enables it to access data via any installed ODBC drivers. Borland packages native drivers for Oracle, SQL Server, and Informix, in addition to its own Interbase server in the Paradox client/server edition.
